Wray Morrison: Riders rebuild without Allen as key player

There was lots of discussion over the Father's Day weekend about CFL roster moves. Here in Saskatchewan, much of it was about the quarterbacks. I'll admit I was surprised to see Bryan Bennett released and Marquise Williams stick. Williams deserves credit for putting in the extra time to learn the playbook and making an impression, considering he joined the team after camp started. I was more surprised to see the release of running back Anthony Allen. Cameron Marshall is currently the feature back on the depth chart. After having a good season with the Bombers in 2015, the 25-year-old Marshall played in some NFL pre-season games in 2016, and now finds himself back in the CFL. Meanwhile, Anthony Allen, 28, has nearly three full seasons of CFL football under his belt and is a known commodity. Some GM's believe international running backs are easy to find. Before Joe McKnight emerged last season, that wasn't the case for Saskatchewan. Time will tell if the decision to go with Marshall over Allen was the right one.
